Act 5 · Patch 13.06

Phoenix

Duelist · Independent entry

Hailing from the U.K., Phoenix's star power shines through in his fighting style, igniting the battlefield with flash and flare. Whether he's got backup or not, he's rushing in to fight on his own terms.

Duelists are self-sufficient fraggers who their team expects, through abilities and skills, to get high frags and seek out engagements first.

Why we fit it where we do Corner-heavy entries suit a flash that curves and a body that comes back.

The four

  • Blaze (C) ability iconCBlazewall

EQUIP a flame wall. FIRE to create a line of flame that moves forward, passing through the world and creating a wall of fire that blocks vision and damages players passing through it. The fire wall heals Phoenix instead of dealing damage. HOLD FIRE to bend the wall in the direction of your crosshair.

  • Hot Hands (Q) ability iconQHot Handsdamage

EQUIP a fireball. FIRE to throw a fireball that explodes after a set amount of time or upon hitting the ground, creating a lingering fire zone that damages enemies. The fire zone heals Phoenix instead of dealing damage. ALT FIRE to lob.

  • Curveball (E) ability iconECurveballflash

EQUIP a flare orb that takes a curving path and detonates shortly after throwing. FIRE to curve the flare orb to the left, detonating and Blinding any player who sees the orb. ALT FIRE to curve the flare orb to the right. Curveball resets a charge every two kills.

  • Run it Back (X) ability iconXRun it Backsupport

INSTANTLY place a marker at Phoenix's location. While this ability is active, dying or allowing the timer to expire will end this ability and bring Phoenix back to this location with full health and the amount of armor he had when the ability was cast.

Patch 13.06

Nothing in patch 13.06 names this agent. Your habits carry over — the retest list on the patch page is short and this is not on it.

Phoenix balance history

Riot's notes from patch 1.01 to 13.06 change Phoenix in 4 patches. The latest is patch 13.02, published 2026-07-28.

  1. Patch 13.022026-07-28

    • Ultimate points increased from 6 to 7.
    Why, in Riot's words

Overall we are happy with the state of Phoenix's balance. This is a small touch to address the frequency with which he is able to cast his ultimate to be more in line with other characters.

  2. Patch 11.002025-06-24

    • Curveball Windup increased0.5sto0.6s
    Why, in Riot's words

We’re also adjusting Neon’s Relay Bolt and Phoenix’s Curveball to have room for some additional counterplay. These abilities are meant to create strong combat advantages, but their fast activation left little time for opponents to respond. These changes aim to increase moment-to-moment counterplay without removing the need to anticipate and position against them.

  3. Patch 5.122022-12-06

    CBlaze

    • Cost decreased200to150
    Why, in Riot's words

We're back again with small Harbor buffs. It is hard to learn a new Controller smoke style and we hope these changes make it easier for Harbor's vision block to last long enough to finish executing with their team, while also providing wall smoke duration that’s on par with Viper. We’ll continue to monitor Harbor’s strength and see if we need to make any more waves. Chalo!

  4. Patch 5.012022-07-12

    QCurveball

    • Flash Max duration increased1.1sto1.5s
    • Flash Windup decreased .7sto.5s

    CBlaze

    • Phoenix will now equip his weapon earlier if he stops bending his wall

    XRun it Back

    • Phoenix will now spawn at the marker with the amount of shields he had when the ability was cast
    Why, in Riot's words

We believe Phoenix's Curveball is the cornerstone of his kit, and as we explored adjustment options it became clear that Curveball being more powerful unlocks his kit as a whole. So we wanted to assess Phoenix in a world where Curveball is more competitive with the rest of the ecosystem to get a sense for the impact of the changes. We view Phoenix as an aggressive entry Agent, so the additional Run It Back and Blaze changes are intended to support his proactive intentions when taking space or fights early on into rounds.
