WoW Forever for beginners: is it free, and is it worth playing? — WoW Forever: a beginner's guide
Blizzard presents World of Warcraft: Forever as a new permanent home alongside modern and Classic WoW. This page walks the decision in five steps: what it is, what it costs, whether it suits you, which choices cannot be undone, and what to do first. Every fact comes from Blizzard’s posts or Warcraft Wiki and carries its source; where nothing is published, we say so.

WoW Forever: free or paid, at a glance
Not according to the posts we read. They say access is included with a subscription or Game Time. The only no-subscription access they describe is time-limited.
- Invite-A-Friend codes
Nov 4 to 11 only - Stress test
October 21, characters wiped
Is WoW Forever free?
No. It needs an active subscription or Game Time on your World of Warcraft account, and no separate purchase is required to play. The exceptions: Invite-a-Friend launch-code holders can play from 4 to 11 November without one, and the 21 October stress test was open to any account. The Skyborne race needs a pack.

Verdict: Forever is a permanent level-60 world that needs a subscription or Game Time. It suits you if you want that, and not if you expect flying or level scaling.
