Is WoW Forever down? Server status channels, queues and fixes

We do not show whether WoW Forever is up. Blizzard has no public Forever status feed we can read, and we never poll Blizzard or paint a made-up green light. This page tells you where Blizzard posts status, what it published about queues and downtime, and what its own support articles say to do.

Was there a queue on the first day of the WoW Forever beta?

Yes. Blizzard staff said on 17 September that many people were waiting to get in and called the opening a smooth and slow opening of the doors. Players posted queues of several thousand, but those are player reports, not Blizzard figures. Blizzard says the realmless design is meant to lessen the tradeoff between queues and communities.

What to do if…

What’s happening to you? Start from your situation — built only from Blizzard posts and support articles.

Pick the one that matches — the matching card below lights up.

You are stuck in a queue

  1. Blizzard’s connection-trouble article says to check the BlizzardCS account on Twitter and the Realm Status page for service interruptions before trying any fix.
  2. When the beta opened on 17 September Blizzard wrote: “We’re seeing a lot of people waiting to get into the Beta … We’re working through a couple of final issues … Thank you for your patience!” (Beta).
  3. Player report: on 4 October a player tabbed out, was disconnected and saw a queue “13k long” (Beta).

You get disconnected

  1. For the “disconnected from server” error WOW51900319, Blizzard’s own article sends players to its server-status account first.
  2. Blizzard says lag and disconnections are often caused by outdated or broken addons; update or disable them.
  3. Blizzard’s connection steps: update the game in the Battle.net app’s Options, reset the UI, run the repair tool for damaged files, restart your network hardware and refresh IP and DNS.
  4. Blizzard’s advanced steps: remove a VPN or proxy, check firewall and ports, and add Blizzard apps to your security software’s exceptions.

Your name is taken

  1. A character has two names, and the full combination must be unique within a region. A first name already used is not a problem if the second name differs.
  2. A restricted word split across the two names can still be refused. If the full name is taken or fails the rules, choose another combination or try the in-game random name generator.
  3. Early Name Reservation runs 27 October to 3 November for eligible purchases, first come, first served; desired names are not guaranteed.
  4. A Beta-era guide says names are unique region-wide, 2 to 12 characters, and that no name-change service exists for Forever.

Queues: what Blizzard said, what players reported

BLIZZARD · 17 SEP 2026 · BETAWhen the beta opened on 17 September Blizzard wrote: “We’re seeing a lot of people waiting to get into the Beta … We’re working through a couple of final issues … Thank you for your patience!” (Beta).
PLAYER REPORT, BETA22,329Player report, not a Blizzard figure: an EU forum thread of 17 September says “22,329 in queue with an estimated 48-minute wait” (Beta).Blizzard EU forums — player thread “22,000+ Login Queue” ↗
PLAYER REPORT, BETA9k → 17kPlayer report, not a Blizzard figure: a US forum thread of the same day is titled “9k login queue first try, retry at 17k” (Beta). That is where the 17k number comes from.Blizzard US forums — player thread, 9k then 17k ↗
PLAYER REPORT, BETA13kPlayer report: on 4 October a player tabbed out, was disconnected and saw a queue “13k long” (Beta).Blizzard US forums — player thread “DC and 10000+ login queue” ↗

Bundle buyers could see delays “of up to 30 minutes” before beta access appeared, and a launcher restart might be needed (Beta). If an invitation looks doubtful, check Your Game Accounts for a Forever beta license.

These are past Beta reports, not current queues and not Blizzard figures.

How the servers are organised

Why is there no realm list?

Blizzard calls Forever “realmless”: it moves away from the realm-selection screen, and you choose a ruleset instead. Warcraft Wiki describes one “mega-realm” per ruleset per region, for Normal, PvP and RP, with Hardcore later.

Normal1 mega-realm / region
PvP1 mega-realm / region
RP1 mega-realm / region
RP-PvPrules not published
Hardcorelater

Blizzard’s Stress Test post named four start times: Europe, the Americas plus Oceania, Korea and Taipei. Launch itself is global. Launch is global on 4 November at 3:00 p.m. PST. How rulesets work →

How was downtime announced?

  • In the beta, restarts were announced by Blizzard’s community manager on the official WoW forums, about 40 minutes ahead, with an in-game warning just before the realm went offline (Beta, 6 October).
  • Blizzard’s news site carried the Stress Test notice and its later date change; it said the test window “may end earlier or run later as needed”.

What we could not confirm

What we do not know yet
  • A list of Forever realms: there is none, because Blizzard calls the game realmless.
  • Whether Blizzard’s Realm Status page will list Forever, and how.
  • Any Blizzard figure for launch capacity or queue size. Reports of cap increases during the beta come only from third-party sites, so we do not repeat them.
  • Launch-week maintenance windows. Blizzard has published none; the only downtime dates we found are for the beta and the Stress Test.
  • Whether a disconnect keeps your place in the queue. Players asked Blizzard on 13 October; we found no answer.
  • Blizzard’s older advice to pick another realm when one is full: with one mega-realm per ruleset and region it does not obviously apply, so we do not repeat it.

Where sources disagree

Contradiction radar — we show the clash instead of choosing silently.
  • Launch time zonedisagree

Blizzard’s posts print both PST and PDT for 3:00 p.m. on 4 November. We show it as quoted.

  • Player reports vs Blizzard figurescaution

Only the 17 September sentence is Blizzard’s. Every queue number is a player report from the Beta, not a current queue.

  • Old guides vs beta closestale

Guides that still offer beta access after Fri 23 Oct, 10:00 a.m. PDT are out of date.

  • “Pick another realm”unclear

Old advice for full realms does not obviously apply to one mega-realm per ruleset and region.

What changed for me?

Each phase label, and the action it changes for you.
  1. Beta opened 17 Sep
Queues reported by players; Blizzard asked for patience.
  2. Stress Test 21 Oct
Any WoW account could join. Everything made was wiped afterwards.
  3. Beta closed 23 Oct, 10:00 a.m. PDT
Guides offering beta access after this are stale.
  4. Early Name Reservation 27 Oct – 3 Nov
Claim your two-name combination; first come, first served.
  5. Launch + Invite-A-Friend week 4 – 11 Nov
Global launch; invitees play free that week, so expect a busy week.
