Grand Theft Auto VI activities — what is established so far

Where this stands

Rockstar named eleven side activities in Game Informer’s 29 September cover story — still no full list and no count, but more on the record than for any other GTA 6 module.

This page will hold an activity index: where each one is, what it pays, what it unlocks. None of that has been published. What HAS been published is unusual and better than a list — Rockstar North’s Rob Nelson talked a YouTube interviewer through fishing, hunting and the gym, and explained the reasoning behind each. So this page is built out of what a developer said, and out of the gap between three other sites that each publish a different "confirmed" list.

No total appears on this page. The eleven are what Rockstar chose to name, not what exists; three published lists give twelve, sixteen and sixteen, and only three names appear on all of them — printing a total would add a disagreement rather than resolve one.

Has Rockstar named GTA 6’s activities?

Said on record

Eleven, through Game Informer’s 29 September cover story: base jumping, billiards, gyms, kayaking, mini golf, scuba diving, street and off-road racing, zoos, airboating and jet skiing.

Game Informer’s issue #382 ran a 14-page cover story built on new developer interviews with Rockstar Games. GTA Intel and PlayStation LifeStyle both relayed the side activities it names the same day, and their lists agree: base jumping, billiards, gyms, kayaking, mini golf, scuba diving, street racing, off-road racing, zoo visits, airboating and jet skiing. That is what Rockstar chose to name, not a full list — there is still no count, no category list and no completion checklist on Rockstar’s own site.

Still open — Whether these are tracked activities with stats and a completion count, and what the full list holds beyond the eleven named.

What has a Rockstar developer actually said about them?

Said on record

Rob Nelson described fishing, hunting and the gym to a YouTube interviewer. That is the firmest source that exists.

Rockstar North’s Rob Nelson sat down with the channel TGG and went through several side activities in detail. It is the only developer account of this subject on the record, and it is worth being precise about its shape: Rockstar published no article, so every outlet reporting it is relaying one conversation. The details below all come from that interview, which is why they are graded as reported rather than stated.

Still open — Everything not covered in that one conversation — which is most of the list other sites publish.

Every question, with the state of its answer

Can you keep the fish you catch in GTA 6?

Said on record

No. Fishing is catch-and-release — you cannot keep, cook or sell anything.

The system is reported as being about as deep as Red Dead Redemption 2’s, with one deliberate subtraction: every fish goes back in the water. Nelson’s stated reason for it is three words long — keeping them "didn’t fit this game" — and the activity is tied instead to challenges, collectibles and moments in the story. ⚖️ Worth noticing what this is: a design decision explained by its designer, which is rarer before launch than a leaked list and far more useful.

Still open — Whether the challenges tied to it are a collectible set of their own, and where they are tracked.

What is known about collectibles

Does hunting work the same way as fishing?

Said on record

No — and the difference is the point. Hunting pays; fishing does not.

The same interview reports that what you take from an animal can be sold, which makes hunting an income source and fishing a pastime. It is also reported to be introduced through a character who already knows Jason rather than by a map icon, so it arrives as part of the world instead of as a menu entry. Two activities, two different jobs in the game — which is exactly the distinction a list of names cannot carry.

Still open — What hunting actually pays, and whether it is worth doing once money is easy.

The money tool

Why does every site publish a different list?

Sources disagree

Because none of them defines the word. Three "confirmed" lists, and only three names appear on all three.

GTA Intel publishes twelve activities. GTABase publishes sixteen. GamesRadar+ publishes sixteen of a different kind — its entries include watching television and carjacking. Set the three side by side and the only names on every one of them are basketball, the gym, and diving. Tennis is on one list and absent from the next; a car collection is an activity on one and not a category on the others. None of the pages is wrong: they are answering three different questions under one heading.

Still open — Whether Rockstar treats any of this as a tracked activity at all, which is the only thing that would settle the boundary.

  3. The first weeksWhat hunting actually pays, measured rather than inferred from the one sentence that says it pays at all.
