What do I press now?
ScalecommanderOPENER
- 1Pre-cast Living Flame — Scalecommander Hovers twice first
- 2Dragonrage with the potion; Tip the Scales into an empower
- 3Eternity Surge and Fire Breath at rank 1, then Disintegrate until out of Essence
SCALECOMMANDER
- 1Deep Breath on cooldown — again inside 18 s with Strafing Run
- 2Mass Disintegrate after every empower; on two targets, pick a different one each time
- 3Let a Mass Disintegrate finish before the next, and weave a Pyre between them for Charged Blast
EVERY GLOBAL
- 1Fire Breath and Eternity Surge on cooldown — hold them if Dragonrage is seconds away
- 2Chain Disintegrate: recast just after a damage tick, never cap Essence
- 3Unbound Flame after Dragonrage for an Essence Burst; Living Flame fills
PACKS
- 1Disintegrate on up to three targets, Pyre from four stacked
- 2Rank Eternity Surge to the number of enemies
- 3Azure Sweep when it procs; Azure Strike fills on three or more
HOVER
- 1Hover right after an instant cast so the global cooldown hides it
- 2Spend Iridescence: Blue on Disintegrate, not Azure Strike
- 3With Slipstream, press Deep Breath at zero Hover charges
STAYING ALIVE
- 1Obsidian Scales for lethal hits; Renewing Blaze heals back what it stopped
- 2Zephyr whenever the party takes area damage — it covers them too
- 3Stretch Time softens hits during Deep Breath; never hold Deep Breath for it as Scalecommander

Scalecommander
Guide: Scalecommander everywhere · Scalecommander recommended
Empowers turn your next Disintegrate into a three-target Mass Disintegrate that marks Bombardments; Deep Breath comes back far sooner and brings a Dracthyr squadron.
- Diverted Power over Extended BattleMethod’s pick, and 97% of high keys
- Slipstream over Nimble FlyerDeep Breath hands back a Hover charge (94%)
- Hardened Scales over Menacing Presenceevery high key takes it (100%)

Raid, M+ or Delves — what matters?
| Job | Raid | Mythic+ |
|---|---|---|
| Hero tree | Scalecommander (recommended) | Scalecommander (recommended) |
| Single target | Two Deep Breaths, rank-1 empowers | Mass Disintegrate on two targets |
| Area damage | Eternity’s Span for lasting cleave | Pyre on packs, Surge ranked up |
| Defensive | Obsidian Scales; Stretch Time on Deep Breath (not as Scalecommander) | Zephyr whenever the party takes area damage |
Delves, Prey and outdoor: no source gives Devastation Evoker guidance for them yet — no column is guessed.
What goes wrong for me?
- Empowers on cooldown but held for Dragonrage, Disintegrates chained, Essence never capped.
- Recast Deep Breath when Melt Armor is down or Strafing Run is about to expire.
- I lose damage moving: Plan Hovers ahead and hide them in the global cooldown after an instant.
- Start a Disintegrate as Hover ends — the cast still finishes on the move.
- Packs die without me: Eternity’s Span and Volatility, Eternity Surge ranked to the pack, Pyre as the spender.
- I die: Obsidian Scales with Renewing Blaze for lethal hits, Zephyr for group damage.
- Lifecinders as Flameshaper: Obsidian Scales at 15% for one ally too.

When do I swap a talent?
| Talent | Type | Rule |
|---|---|---|
| Eternity's Span | Area | Take when cleave and keys — Eternity Surge hits two targets per rank (47 of the top 50) |
| Event Horizon / Eye of Infinity | Damage | Keep Event Horizon — 97% of high keys take the 3 s shorter Eternity Surge |
| Unravel | Damage | Take when only when an absorb shield has to be broken |
| Overawe | Utility | Take when a mass soothe through Oppressing Roar — added in Den of Nalorakk far more than elsewhere |
| Terror of the Skies | Utility | Take when keys — Deep Breath stuns the pack it crosses |
| Cauterizing Flame | Utility | Take when bleeds, poisons, curses or diseases on the group (31 of the top 50) |
What does this fight ask of me?
Nek’zali the Soulcoiler
- Break Gravebound Advance with magic damage, then kill each Amani before the well.
- The intermission rewards strong AoE, as adds and corpses pile up there.
- Melee soak each Hungering Pyre; killing both Echoes of Jawae closes the intermission.
- In Phase 2, use Hero/Lust and cooldowns and burn the boss.

Talents — top keys against this guide’s Mythic+ build
This guide’s Mythic+ build plays Scalecommander; 99% of top keys do. Checked on its 3 named key talents and every choice node.
- Top keys and this guide agree on every talent checked.
How we counted: the best timed run of each character on Blizzard’s Mythic+ leaderboards this week, then its profile — gear only if it is still in this spec, talents from its active loadout. A share is of this spec’s sample, per slot (both rings and both trinkets merged); a row needs 2% and 2 characters. Read 2026-10-09 from Blizzard’s Game Data and Profile APIs, no names kept. Top keys, not all players — what they wear, not a best-in-slot list.

Where sources disagree
- Azure Sweep or not?
- ◆ Method: its single-target builds take it
- ◆ Maxroll: Shattering Stars or Volatility instead, unless you own the Season 1 set
- ◆ Top 50 by rating: 3 of 50 take it
- How strong is its area damage in keys?
- ◆ Maxroll (Aug 11): Weak
- ◆ Sims (Oct 8): 3rd of 26 at three and five targets
- ◆ Blizzard, Sep 22: M+ damage slightly low — area spells buffed
- Lifecinders or Draconic Instincts?
- ◆ Maxroll: Lifecinders most of the time
- ◆ High keys on Flameshaper: 48% Lifecinders, 52% Instincts
Opinion, not data: Opinion (Method’s author): the set is mostly passive, but the 4-piece makes the spec feel smooth.
