Midnight Season 2 Gear: where every item level comes from

The season’s rules

• Every upgrade rank costs 20 Mistcrests of the item’s own track, so 1/6 to 6/6 is 100.
• Each crest’s cap rises by 100 a week, and crests you did not earn carry into the next week.
• Past the cap, a crest drop arrives as the next crest down instead.
• The crest cap is lifted in the week of October 20.
• Once a slot has held an item at some item level, new items for it upgrade to that level for 0 crests.
• Rings, trinkets and dual-wielded weapons need both of their slots at that level before the discount applies.
• With every slot at a crest’s top item level, that crest trades up 3 for 1 — Hero into Myth once you sit at 321.
• Normal raid bosses pay 10–20 Champion Mistcrests, Heroic 10–20 Hero and Mythic 10–20 Myth; Raid Finder pays Veteran. On Normal and Heroic, Ula’tek adds 10 crests of the next kind up.
• A caught-up character earns one Spark of Tides a week; Sparks are spent whole — there are no fragments.
• A Nebulous Voidcore is a Vault choice once three slots are open; spent on a raid boss, it rolls an item at that difficulty’s Vault level.
• Since the week of Oct 6, Orin sells one extra Voidcore a week for 5,000 gold, Veteran Mistcrests or 2,000 Voidlight Marl.
• A boss can be bonus-rolled once per difficulty each week.
• The Lair locks once a week, and a Voidcore can be spent on it once a week.
• A Catalyst charge is a Venomblight Manaflux: one arrives every two weeks and you can hold up to 8.
• The Serpent Scion feat adds one charge — Ula’tek on Heroic or Mythic, a 2,000 Mythic+ rating or 1,600 rated PvP.
• After Catalyst Unbound, charges also drop from Mythic+, the raid, Bountiful Delves and rated PvP.
• A catalysed item keeps its secondary and tertiary stats, its sockets and its cantrip effects.
• Set bonuses use head, shoulders, chest, hands and legs; in any other slot the Catalyst gives an off-set piece.
• Kirana, beside the Catalyst, sells Season 2 class set armour for Slumbering Coil Curios.
• Ten Ascendant Venomstones raise a 6/6 Hero or Myth weapon, trinket or necklace — or a top-quality Tidal crafted one.
• Venomstones drop from Heroic and Mythic raid bosses, keys of +10 and up, Tier 11 Bountiful Delves and Nightmare Prey.
• A necklace can climb as far as the Myth 8 equivalent.
• Icy Veins’ chart puts a Myth item raised with Venomstones at item level 341 (Myth 8/6); Blizzard has not printed the gain, nor one for Hero or crafted items.
• Orin offers the Venomstone quest the week of October 13; the stones start dropping the week of October 20, when the crest cap is lifted.
• A Bountiful chest opens with a Restored Coffer Key.
• From Delver’s Journey rank 8, Tier 9 and up adds Champion Warbound gear.
• From Journey rank 9, Tier 11 Bountiful Coffers can hold Hero gear.
• Rares drop Adventurer 1/6 on the Normal world tier and 4/6 on the Heroic one.
• After the season’s first Vault, the world row pays Hero 1/6 at most.
• Ritual Site Vault rewards match Delve Tiers 1–6, so they stop on the Champion track.
• World boss drops stay Season 1 gear and cannot be upgraded.

Where sources disagree

What does an end-of-run chest at +6 to +10 pay?

Method’s loot table prints Hero 1–3/6 as 302 / 305 / 308; its own track table — and every other table read — says 305 / 308 / 311. The page prints the track table.

What does a +7–9 Vault choice pay?

Method’s Vault table writes 311 beside Hero 4/6; its track table puts Hero 4/6 at 315, shown here.

How far do Ascendant Venomstones raise an item?

Icy Veins marks 341 (Myth 8) as reachable; Warcraft Wiki says Hero → 331 and Myth → 344, against its own track table. Only Blizzard’s necklace line — the Myth 8 equivalent — is printed until they arrive on Oct 20.

Which crests buy Orin’s Voidcore, and how many?

Blizzard says Veteran Mistcrests and gives no amount; Icy Veins says 80 Veteran Dawncrest, Season 1’s name. The amount is left out.

What does a Raid Finder Vault choice pay?

One Icy Veins article says Champion 1/8; Blizzard says the first rank of the next track up — Champion 1/6, used here.

Does a catalysed item keep its track and item level?

Neither Blizzard nor Method says so for Season 2, so the page never promises it — only the stats, sockets and effects they do confirm.

What does each crafting quality pay?

The ends of each range — 292–305, 305–318, 318–331 — match in-game tooltips; the steps between them come from Warcraft Wiki only.
