Eclipse has no date yet — what Blizzard has confirmed for WoW 12.2, Season 3 and Talebound

WoW Eclipse (12.2) has no release date: Blizzard’s roadmap says winter 2026–27, with Season 3 shortly after. What is confirmed, shown and only reported.

There is no release date for Eclipse. Blizzard calls patch 12.2 “the final major content update to Midnight”, its BlizzCon roadmap puts it in a winter 2026–27 window, and it has said Midnight Season 3 begins “shortly after the launch of Eclipse”. Anything more precise than that — a week, a day — is somebody’s estimate.

What Blizzard has published instead is the contents: a zone, an eight-boss raid, a dungeon, the expansion’s first legendary, Paladins for three more races, the full Season 3 dungeon list with the changes planned for each, and a new mode, Talebound, that arrives one patch earlier. And today, 13 October, the patch before all of it — 12.1.5 — goes live with the weekly maintenance. Here is the road, step by step, with each step marked confirmed, shown or reported.

When is the WoW 12.2 Eclipse release date?

Blizzard has not given one. Its written recap of the What’s Next panel describes Eclipse in detail and dates nothing in it. The only timing comes from the roadmap slide shown at BlizzCon, which we have not been able to read first-hand, so we rely on two outlets that transcribed it. JudgeHype lists 12.2 under “winter 2026–2027” with patch 12.1.7, “Echoes of the Worldcore”, before it in late 2026. Warcraft Tavern reads the same slide as putting Eclipse at the beginning of 2027.

There is one more clue, and it points the same way. Blizzard’s Season 3 dungeon preview, published four days after BlizzCon, promises more detail “as we get closer to the PTR for the update” — so the public test realm for 12.2 had not opened, and the same post warns that “our plans may change as development and testing continue”. On the roadmap, 12.1.7 still has to ship before it.

What is in Eclipse?

The story ends Midnight’s war on the Void: players take “Light-wielding forces to deliver a decisive blow to Xal’atath and her Devouring Host”, in Blizzard’s phrase. The new zone is the Mantle Vault, a Titan vault home to the Thraegar, described as an ancient race of crystalline, dwarf-like creatures, and to a new hostile group, the Deepskar Empire of kobolds, troggs, drogbar and niffen. The raid is The Worldcore, eight bosses ending with Xal’atath. A separate lair, the Gearhold, holds an azerite bat, Noctinaxx, on World, Normal, Heroic and flexible Mythic difficulty.

The expansion also gets its first legendary. Midnight’s Edge is a caster dagger from the Worldcore — Blizzard goes out of its way to say it is “not the Blade of the Black Empire” — and beating the raid is only one of several steps to earn it. Forsaken, Night Elf and Troll characters can become Paladins. Prey gains a final difficulty, Agony Mode; the Mantle Vault adds an outdoor feature called Radiant Screams; and a Calibration Chamber lets a group test its rotation against target dummies with cooldown resets and full raid buffs.

Why this is hereBlizzard’s own reveal trailer for Eclipse, under three minutes, from the official channel on the day of BlizzCon. It is the publisher’s framing of the patch in its own footage — the one source on Eclipse that is neither a recap nor a transcription.

What are the Midnight Season 3 dungeons?

Eight, and Blizzard has named all of them: the new Thraegar’s Stand, two Midnight dungeons returning “with some changes and touch-ups”, and five older ones. Unusually, it has also published what it intends to change in each, in a dungeon preview that reads like early patch notes. The expansion of origin comes from Gamewave’s list; the planned changes are Blizzard’s.

Midnight Season 3 Mythic+ rotation. Changes are Blizzard’s stated plans and, in its words, “may change as development and testing continue”.
DungeonFirst appearedWhat Blizzard plans
Thraegar’s StandEclipse (new)Three bosses: Cragcleaver and Foreman Sullk, Monokk, Stenvarg the Inevitable
Magisters’ TerraceMidnightNew paths through the library event; Degentrius updated
Maisara CavernsMidnightCaptive and buff spots moved in the opening; Muro’jin and Nekraxx made clearer
Uldaman: Legacy of TyrDragonflightFive bosses cut to four (Lost Dwarves deactivated); Emberon reworked
The StonecoreCataclysmFull revamp: new designs for every enemy and boss
Iron DocksWarlords of DraenorAll four bosses modernised; runs less dependent on the Iron Stars
Sanguine DepthsShadowlandsFewer caster packs; two enemy types merged into one
The UnderrotBattle for AzerothElder Leaxa less about interrupts; new routes in the final section

The single biggest change is Uldaman’s length. Blizzard says it heard “your feedback regarding Uldaman’s length” and will deactivate the Lost Dwarves encounter on Heroic, Mythic and Mythic+, and it will make Emberon’s Purging Flames trigger at health thresholds rather than on an energy cycle, so high keys no longer drag the fight out. The Stonecore is the opposite case: kept whole, but rebuilt from the ground up — and players “will still need to chase Millhouse Manastorm”.

How do Season 3 Mythic+ rewards change?

Two ways. A new reward tier is added for the top 5% of Mythic+ ratings, and both the top-1% and top-5% rewards are now judged within your specialisation rather than against every player. Blizzard’s example is plain: if you push keys as a Protection Warrior, “your eligibility will be determined by how your rating compares to other Protection Warriors”.

Delves continue alongside: Valeera Sanguinar stays as the companion with a higher level cap and new Curios, a new Nemesis, Astalor Bloodsworn, arrives, and existing Delves gain extra variations. A new PvP season starts with Season 3 as well. None of it has a date beyond the one Season 3 itself has — “shortly after” Eclipse.

What Eclipse changes for housing — and what comes after it

Housing gets the longest feature list of anything in Eclipse that is not a raid. Showcase is a new mode for browsing featured homes from the housing dashboard; you can submit your own, a snapshot is saved at that moment so you can keep decorating, and selected Showcase events can offer exclusive décor rewards. Mannequins arrive and can wear any gear or weapon appearance you have unlocked. Décor gains copy-paste, which duplicates an item with its size, rotation and dye, and multi-select, which moves or rotates several items around one pivot. Anyone who already owns a piece of décor can buy more copies of it from inside their home, and four new endeavors are added, including the Stormriders of the Isle of Dorn.

Two later changes were announced in the same breath. From 12.2.5, the spring patch, gear can be transmogrified across armour types “without restriction” — a cloth-wearer in plate looks, and the reverse. And a Wrath of the Lich King Remix is coming; Blizzard’s recap gives it no date, and Warcraft Tavern’s reading of the roadmap puts it in summer 2027, as Midnight winds down.

What is Talebound, and when can you play it?

Talebound is a new PvE action-RPG mode inside WoW, and it comes before Eclipse: Blizzard says it “arrives with the Echoes of the Worldcore content update”, the 12.1.7 patch on the roadmap. Players run “tales” told by a Storyteller with a taste for the macabre, alone or with friends, and return between runs to a village hub, Quillgrave, where an Arcanist, Scribe, Outfitter and Antiquarian improve the next attempt. It has three classes of its own — Slayer, Inquisitor and Witch — all able to double jump, dodge and guard, and four stories at launch, with cosmetic rewards for your Midnight account.

Blizzard promised “an early preview of Talebound on the PTR sometime in October”. As of 13 October, its WoW news feed carries no post announcing that preview, so the October promise has eighteen days left to run.

When does The Last Titan come out?

In 2027, according to press reports from the Opening Ceremony — but that year is not in Blizzard’s own written summary. The recap says only that The Last Titan, the final part of the Worldsoul Saga, will be “the culmination of over two decades of Warcraft” and that players should “expect more information on The Last Titan early next year”. games.gg reported that Blizzard “has not announced a specific release date beyond the 2027 window”, and GosuGamers that it is “scheduled to release sometime in 2027”; neither says where on stage the year appeared.

Blizzard’s minute-and-a-half teaser, “COLOSSAL”, carries one line in its description — “The snow-packed peaks of Northrend cower below the spreading shadow of a singular and thundering judgment” — and no date. The roadmap, as transcribed, puts the full reveal after Eclipse: JudgeHype says Blizzard plans to unveil the expansion once Eclipse is out, and Warcraft Tavern places the announcement at the start of spring. Either way, the order is fixed: 12.1.7, then Eclipse and Season 3, then The Last Titan’s real reveal.

What 12.1.5 opens this week

The first step on that road is live today. Blizzard dated 12.1.5 “October 13 (with weekly maintenance)”: the single-boss raid The Unbinding of Kith’ix, with Mythic for a flexible 15 to 25 players, the nine-chamber Labyrinth of Kindo’jan, Aqir Invasions in Eversong and Zul’Aman, and the campaign chapter “The Promise of Tomorrow”. The mid-season refresh finishes a week later — the 12.1.5 notes say “the crest cap will be lifted” the week of 20 October, when Ascendant Venomstones arrive. Our patch page tracks the notes line by line.

What this establishes

  • Blizzard has published no date for Eclipse (12.2). Its BlizzCon roadmap, as transcribed by two outlets, gives a winter 2026–27 window, and the 12.2 PTR had not opened when its dungeon preview was posted.
  • Season 3 starts “shortly after” Eclipse, with eight Mythic+ dungeons Blizzard has named — and changes planned for each, including Uldaman cut from five bosses to four.
  • From Season 3, top-1% and top-5% Mythic+ rewards are judged within your specialisation, and a new top-5% tier is added.
  • Talebound arrives with 12.1.7, Echoes of the Worldcore, before Eclipse; Blizzard promised a PTR preview in October.
  • Blizzard’s written recap promises more on The Last Titan “early next year”; the 2027 release window is reported by press, not printed there.

What stays open

  • Eclipse’s release date, and when its PTR opens.
  • When 12.1.7 and Talebound go live, beyond “late 2026”.
  • Whether Talebound’s PTR preview lands in October as promised — it had not been announced by 13 October.
  • The Last Titan’s release month, and where on stage the 2027 window was shown.
  • Which roadmap transcription is right where they differ — JudgeHype’s “winter” or Warcraft Tavern’s “beginning of 2027”.
